3/5/15

Weather3-5-15(Cleveland)-A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for White County. While temperatures stayed  well above freezing  during the  morning but don’t let that fool you.  Don Strength, Weather Specialist with the White County Emergency Management Agency office advises, observations all across Tennessee and extreme north Alabama report a temp drop of 20 degrees in just 1 hour when the cold front passes.

Strength says, the issue with the forecast is the timing and precipitation type. The front is slowing down some and the cold air is not expected to be here until late afternoon. If everything stays on track as is right now, he said, “ I would expect the cold air to start filtering in after 4:pm and we may be flirting with freezing temps by mid evening. Again, the cold air could move in sooner or later.

We will fall quickly to the mid 30’s once the cold front passes and we could start seeing sleet when that happens during the mid afternoon hours but we will not go below freezing until early evening if the timing stays on track.

By Midnight most precipitation will be ending. Some freezing drizzle will be possible. A Snow flurry is also possible.

Strength said, the ground temp is so warm I would expect the vast majority of the sleet will melt on contact with the ground. The wind should be gusting to 20 which will help keep residual moisture to a minimum but we may have Black Ice issues after midnight.
