(Cleveland)- The City of Cleveland has announced  the partial closure of Campbell Street in the city.  A news release from the city says a short  portion of Campbell Street from the intersection of Head Street to the  intersection of Helton Road will be closed to through traffic due to emergency construction work for the replacement of the culvert pipes on Cox Creek.

The release advises the  road closure will begin this Monday, August 13th  and continue through August 31st. (weather permitting).

During Monday nights meeting of the city council City Administrator Tom O’Bryant reported that the present culvert which was installed many years ago by the county when that section of the street was in the county, has deteriorated  and is dangerous, “ like many culverts we have are galvanized, they’ve rusted out, since they’ve done that they’re beginning to collapse.  Actually you can go see the water enter the culvert on the upstream side it’s then draining underneath the culvert on the downstream side, it’s not even flowing out of the culvert pipe,” said O’Bryant.

The council voted to install a larger more durable concrete box culvert.  The cost for the project is $89,477.   For additional information about this road closure, please contact staff at Cleveland City Hall 706-865-2017.
