(Cleveland)- White County Fire Services has announced an event that will honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center.  The 2021 Stair Climb has participants climb the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs which was the height of the World Trade Center Towers in their honor.

The event is open to anyone that wants to climb; Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, Military, and Civilian, and takes place rain or shine!

The event begins at 8:00 a.m. on September 11 at Rezulz Fitness, 2281 GA-17, Sautee Nacoochee.

Each climber will walk up and down the stairs, 62 times (the equivalent of the 1980 steps in 110 flights of stairs), OR participants can choose to use the walking trail at the Sautee Nacoochee Center (located behind Rezulz Fitness). You can use a FitBit or tracker on your smartphone to keep track of your steps.

The cost is $10 per person plus a non-perishable food item.  All money raised goes to The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.  The non-perishable food items will be donated to the White County Food Pantry.

This is not a timed race – but a way for firefighters and the community to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live. You climb as many or as few stairs as you want.

Organizers will have pictures of the 343 FDNY that were lost on that day.  Each participant will choose a picture and take it with you on your climb. This is your individual tribute and not only remembers the sacrifice of a FDNY firefighter but symbolically completes their heroic journey to save others.

Registration is open now. Climbers wishing to represent a particular firefighter or company must indicate this during the registration process. All climbers should consult their physician and be engaged in an adequate physical conditioning program prior to the event.
