(Cleveland)- The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) announced Thursday that the unemployment rate in White County in January was 5 percent. That is up 6 tenths of a percentage point from the 4.4 percent revised December rate .
The labor department said in January the labor force in White County was 14,444, of those 13,727 had jobs, while 717 were unemployed. According to the labor department the rate rose as the labor force grew and the number of new layoffs increased.
The rate for the Georgia Mountains region in January was 4.8 percent, up four-tenths of a percentage point from 4.4 percent in December.
