AUGUSTA, Ga. | The No. 13 University of North Georgia women’s soccer team was picked to finish second in the Peach Belt Conference this season in a poll of the league’s coaches released Thursday morning.

The Nighthawks received all possible second-place votes and are picked behind four-time defending champion Columbus State, who received all possible first-place votes. UNC Pembroke, Young Harris and Flagler round out the top five.

Last season, North Georgia advanced to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional final for the first time in program history, finishing the season with a 15-3-3 record. It was the fifth time in six years that the Nighthawks have finished the season with 15 or more wins. UNG also made it to its third consecutive PBC championship game.

Teams were given 10 points for a first-place vote, nine for second and so on. Coaches were not permitted to rank their own teams.

The Nighthawks will take to the field on September 1 as they open the season at Lee. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
